Celebrity DJs That Get The BoZAK!
Being a DJ since circa-1991, I used to feel like I belonged to a tight-knit community. Not so much any more.
With the rise of all the push-play gear, midi controllers, laptop software and all this other digital trash you can now find at your local Best Buy’s & Targets nowadays, the Disc Jockey is no longer Jockey’ing shit! Especially not anything that represents a Disc! Furthermore, the evil tools of today is making it stupid easy for anyone to adapt. The days of 2 turntables, a 2-channel mixer and YOUR skills is over.
That said- Actors, MC’s, R&B artists & rappers are finding way’s to shit on the #1 most important part of the hip-hop culture (imo) & ruin careers for hard working and talented DJs that deserve (much more than they do) to be up on that stage.
What’s worse is that the fans & the media see this fraudulent crap happening & glorify their shit performances all over YouTube, Twitter, & Facebook. The kids today then think it would be cool if THEY tried DJ’ing so they pick up a midi controller… further over-saturating the market. And let it be known, most younger people and what not don’t even have a clue of what a good DJ sounds like live. The celebs in this column found a loop hole to get more exposure and at the expense of us, the hard working DJ who can mix without looking at the laptop, without using a sync button, and without going digital. The DJ today is so over-saturated that anyone can get a gig.
Celebrity DJs are getting paid 5-10-15 G’s to basically show up at the club under the pseudo-name of a DJ. More like standing a cardboard cutout in front of a laptop playing random iTunes tracks. Club owners are no longer spending money on a DJ, they’re spending money on celebrity’s to draw in a crowd. Fuck the music! Just stand up on stage and do whatever you want with this crazy lookin’ light show and button board thing. Got a huge rack ladies? Come on down cuz you’re invited too! It’s spry-riling out of control & it’s time someone other than Spinderella say something about it.
